Minerality is just another word for salty, so what you describe as a 6th taste is just salt. Yes, you feel it on your tounge as salt. 

Try sipping something earthy, like a french riesling or chablis while holding your nose, keep clamping for 2 minutes. I´m pretty sure you´ll feel the salt on your tounge, as well as acidity. 
When you let go of your nose(where all the aroma receptors are located), youre able to percieve the aromas. 

On the other hand, you can say that wines with high consentration of &quot;minerality&quot; components lift the other flavours in the wine. Just like the use of salt in cooking. So therefore the consentration.
